After years inside datacenters, it’s hard to be afraid of AI killing all humans. I've seen the "secure facility." It's a chain link fence and a guy named Gary.
Night shift is usually 10-20 people. Two hundred people could shut a datacenter down with nothing but a Wikipedia article on fiber optics and some enthusiasm. Start swinging and you’ll hit something valuable pretty fast.
The "secure cages"? Chain link. The lobby's got badges and mancatchers and a guard who checks your ID like it insulted him. Out back it's a sliding metal door, propped open with a folding chair by whoever's waiting on FedEx.
It's not a fortress. It's a strip mall with better cable management.

Reminder: There is exactly one reason why a company postpones an IPO.
That is: They wouldn't get the money they expect or need.
When I read about OpenAI delaying the IPO due to the dangers of AI, I am certain they mean the danger their AI poses to their own quarterly figures (revenue vs. cash burn) they have to publish.

Age verification is having a moment in the EU. But we should ask why scrolling is so hard to stop rather than for whom 👀
Our 🇵🇹 member D3 has brought the first class-action lawsuits vs. Facebook, Instagram, TikTok & YouTube for their “addictive design”.
👏🏾 A bold & timely action! The attention economy has all of us in sight, we urgently need to tackle the business models & design practices that exploit vulnerabilities & manipulate behaviour.

The contagion of fear

Is it supposed to be so obtrusive to install #FreeBSD as a #desktop on a laptop with a DE? Configuring sysrc, manually editing lightdm #xkb although correct keyboard layout has been configured on installation? No username display just "User &", having to manually click and type your username and pw. Genuinely interested if FreeBSD is just not meant to be used as a desktop. #unix
The V8 JavaScript Runtime Undermined My Constant-Time JavaScript Library
Six years ago, I wrote a blog post titled Soatok's Guide to Side-Channel Attacks in which I discussed the general topic of side-channels in cryptographic applications, and how to avoid them, with example code in PHP....
Only stupid smelly fucking nerds would understand why this is funny. So naturally, I laughed
