Send a GDPR objection email to Meta to exercise your rights against unwanted direct marketing and data misuse.

This is very interesting as this campaign doesn't object pay-to-play, but targets the foundational #adtech business model through GDPR ❤️

HUGE NEWS In the UK, Tanya O'Carroll has won her fight to force Facebook to let her opt out of its creepy surveillance-based targeted advertising. Campaigners are now gearing up to enable us this right not to be surveilled in this way, undermining the business model. https://www.thetimes.com/uk/technology-uk/article/facebook-personal-data-opt-out-swg26rm5z

...and just as I assumed, this single, idle VM was responsible for 10% of my server load :P

I have a Win11 VM.
I shut it down from its Start Menu.
It restarts.
I shut it down from the login screen right after restart.
"Other users may be logged in to this system" (that just restarted)

Maybe my morning coffee didn't kick in or the product team didn't get their correct dose of drugs.

This post by photographer Jigna Zhang resonates with me.

art is devoid of humanity, intention, and backstory. It’s a shallow remix of human works, designed to be consumed and discarded, grinding human creation down into a sandy paste, to be re-extruded into grotesque displays. It’s the opposite of what makes art so valuable.

@inthehands "Safely rewriting that code would take years" is a massive understatement from Wired too.

I always give that story as an assignment to my Software Design and Development students. One of the things we talk about is that if the developer •hadn’t• managed to build the game, if the project had collapsed at any point before release, it probably would have saved the company.

The worst possible outcome here is that these DOGEbags manage to build •something• and actually think it works.

Holy shit.

Just wow, wow, holy shit:

Completely rewriting a multi-million line COBOL codebase that has life-or-death consequences for real people in the space of a few months, using gen AI?

I’ve been writing software for 40-some years, and I have to say: this may be, without exaggeration, the stupidest software-related idea I’ve ever heard from leadership.
