once I had a gf who was working as a nanny for a very wealthy, hip coffee shop magnate & his girlfriend. they paid her just above minimum wage, and nickel-n-dimed her on stuff like overnight shifts (“we shouldn’t have to pay you as much when the kids are asleep”).

I remember at one point, during some kind of conversation that had veered into unsolicited advice where he was encouraging her to take some kind of business class or something, he told her:
