the #firefox “profiles” UX is so funny.
like obviously very useful to be able to maintain multiple different profiles with the browser (work, personal, etc) - but quite odd to access it by typing about:profiles
into the address bar instead of just selecting from some slick little interface component.
a lot of people promised they were gonna get organized during the maga years and then sat on their hands while the people who did get organized burned themselves out, got maimed, sometimes got killed, etc.
It would be nice to think that a new crop of principled anti-fascists will rise up to replace those who aren’t able to continue. but it’s probably not a fruitful hope to rely on.
the US military basically does the jerkoff hand motion toward vetting recruits against #nazi ideology.
i’ve seen guys who post openly pro-hitler / atomwaffen style nazi terror propaganda next to selfies … and then join the military three months later.
anyway, watching the new #PBS #Frontline documentary on #JackTeixeira - and one thing that is not being sufficiently articulated:
there was a brief moment when effective prophylactic measures might have been taken. it was definitely not seized upon.
the US military and police are both chock full of (also increasingly open, full-fledged) fascists.
the factions which put up a valiant struggle (and were targeted as “terrorists” by trump’s illegally-installed DHS functionaries) against the US nazi movement which was festering within #MAGA never attained sufficient armaments. the lack of inherent murderous sadism in their politics also frankly gives them a serious disadvantage for survival. it sucks man, but a lot of morally decent people with good politics and some level of organization have been straight up liquidated by #fascists.
the GOP is increasingly openly fascist in an increasingly full-fledged manner, and the feckless democrats, by and large, have mistaken this for an opportunity to cover themselves in glory via a (thin) supposed contrast.
i’m really not into doomerism, but realistically, i am the opposite of optimistic about the fairly short-term future of the US, which is still a very very powerful force in the world.

(needless to say, domestic laborers should be paid comfortably enough that they can have savings & don’t have to scramble for survival; but that is just about never the case.)
anyhow, that phrase pops into my mind still kind of frequently.
this was like 12 years ago, and i’m never very sure what reminds me of it; but it’s a real crystallization of certain class dynamics in the USA, including among groovy young tycoons who like to slum it at working class artists’ parties & shows.
mind you, he did not want to pay her an adult wage himself (despite being roughly a millionaire at that point), for diligently taking care of his own beloved children; flesh of his flesh, blood of his blood.
but still, very nice that he deigned to want to empower her to “make an adult wage”.
to an overworked domestic laborer he was paying like ten bucks an hour to care for his children, this extremely wealthy guy said:
“I Want To Empower You To Make An Adult Wage”
once I had a gf who was working as a nanny for a very wealthy, hip coffee shop magnate & his girlfriend. they paid her just above minimum wage, and nickel-n-dimed her on stuff like overnight shifts (“we shouldn’t have to pay you as much when the kids are asleep”).
I remember at one point, during some kind of conversation that had veered into unsolicited advice where he was encouraging her to take some kind of business class or something, he told her:
“I want to empower you to make an adult wage.”
