i’m really not into doomerism, but realistically, i am the opposite of optimistic about the fairly short-term future of the US, which is still a very very powerful force in the world.

the GOP is increasingly openly fascist in an increasingly full-fledged manner, and the feckless democrats, by and large, have mistaken this for an opportunity to cover themselves in glory via a (thin) supposed contrast.

there was a brief moment when effective prophylactic measures might have been taken. it was definitely not seized upon.

the US military and police are both chock full of (also increasingly open, full-fledged) fascists.

the factions which put up a valiant struggle (and were targeted as “terrorists” by trump’s illegally-installed DHS functionaries) against the US nazi movement which was festering within #MAGA never attained sufficient armaments. the lack of inherent murderous sadism in their politics also frankly gives them a serious disadvantage for survival. it sucks man, but a lot of morally decent people with good politics and some level of organization have been straight up liquidated by #fascists.

anyway, watching the new #PBS #Frontline documentary on #JackTeixeira - and one thing that is not being sufficiently articulated:

Teixeira is NOT an outlier.

the US military basically does the jerkoff hand motion toward vetting recruits against #nazi ideology.

i’ve seen guys who post openly pro-hitler / atomwaffen style nazi terror propaganda next to selfies … and then join the military three months later.

THE US MILITARY IS NOT TRYING TO AVOID TRAINING A NAZI INSURGENCY.

a lot of people promised they were gonna get organized during the maga years and then sat on their hands while the people who did get organized burned themselves out, got maimed, sometimes got killed, etc.

It would be nice to think that a new crop of principled anti-fascists will rise up to replace those who aren’t able to continue. but it’s probably not a fruitful hope to rely on.
