What are the online #book stores that are neither a) monopolistic giants built on enshittification nor b) copyright bullies?

If I ask for a unicorn, which ones do at least give authors a more fair share for their work?

@infosecdj That's a good one, thanks! I'd be also interested in broader topics like contemporary literature, sci-fi, etc.

@buherator i think that is an excellent question for @pluralistic or @cstross myself found libris.nl in the netherlands to be an association of b&m bookshops that has an online presence to be ok for my taste.

@stf @pluralistic @cstross I learned at Bsky that at least author royalties are independent from distributors which is good news!

@buherator @stf @pluralistic No, this isn't entirely correct: royalties are a percentage of the net receipts the publisher gets from retailers. And big retailers extort a deeper discount off SRP than small bookshops. So I get less per sale via, say, Amazon, Waterstones, or B&N than from my local SF specialist store Transreal Fiction.
