Remind me, around what year the car doors stopped working like doors and started working like appliances with a built-in computer?
(yes, you guessed it right, I couldn't figure out how to open a door in a taxi car)
@nina_kali_nina This should be unacceptable to safety regulators
@recursive now that you're saying, I'm genuinely scared. How do I open a door in an emergency if it's computer-controlled "please open the door" button stops working... (I guess I'll break the window)
@nina_kali_nina @recursive you cant. if I understand correctly these doors dont open without electricity. anything wrong and you're trapped. yes it's horrific.
@f4grx @recursive I looked up, there is an emergency door release located exactly where I'd find a regular door release lever, but much smaller. At least that. But uuugh, I don't like when things make me feel stupid
@nina_kali_nina @recursive ah, at least that yeah. I can really understand your feeling. it's just a car, why make it complex.
@f4grx @recursive from an article explaining how to open the door:
> Tesla cars operate much more like modern technology than a traditional vehicle
This is very stupid
@nina_kali_nina @f4grx @recursive
> more like modern technology
So enshittified like the rest of it? Yep, sounds accurate.
@buherator @recursive @nina_kali_nina To be viewed in a private browser window, because I'm sure your local youtube algorithm will push a lot of tesla videos on you after viewing that.
@buherator @recursive @nina_kali_nina Nice for you, but I will just not take chances ^^
@nina_kali_nina I remember the shaved style (removing all surface discontinuities such as logos and door handles) was laughed at, at least in my local car tuning community bubble. Like, haha, whatcha gonna do when your battery's dead? And now not having real door handles becomes the norm.
But also I'm sure there is a backup method of emergency opening. We now just have to google all that crap like where the handbrake is and how to stop the annoying beeping of "helping" systems
@kauzerei so, the backup option in that car is "disassemble a part of the door using a screwdriver or something like that", I'm not even joking - there's a video in this thread
@f4grx @nina_kali_nina @recursive because pressure to sell? anything that can be perceived to give competitive advantage will be made use of, for most part this is just adding hubris and unnecessary complexity under premise of useful features.
@nina_kali_nina It's simple, just download the MyDoorGo app, set up your biometric ID, scan your passport for verification, enable location tracking, link your device to your Google account, and select a subscription from just $19.99 per month. Give the driver your phone number and email address so they can add you on their DoorGo account, and then you can open the door after watching just one short advertisement.
@raynerlucas it's also possible to rank the doors, add doorfriends, and ask AI to generate door feedback
@nina_kali_nina
My '72 Mustang had the door handles kind of underneath the arm rest where you couldn't really see them. Mechanical but invisible.
@nina_kali_nina @recursive my guess would be to cut the roof off it (fire brigade style, tm)
@yottatsa @recursive those clever capitalists expect that fire fighters are going to read the long list of manuals in emergency: https://www.tesla.com/en_GB/firstresponders
