I propose the following constitutional amendment -- people who have never worked a minimum wage job in this country for at least TWO YEARS of their life are INELIGIBLE for ANY ELECTED POSITION. 📜✒️

@codinghorror CEOs often work for minimal wage for tax reasons around here. But even that case is much better than simply asking your billionaire friends to push literal peanuts your way along with a job contract 2 years before you run for office.

We already have incompetent politicians with no experience or understanding of the areas they are responsible for.

Random citizen selection can’t be any worse.

@codinghorror I'd be perfectly happy working a minimum wage job for two years, if I had the kind of intergenerational wealth that most of the political class benefit from.

@codinghorror may I suggest a more continuous solution: people elected into any position must spend one quarter of their term working in a minimum wage job, either in one block or in no more segments than the number of years they are elected for (e.g. four three-month blocks for a four year term).
That way, people don’t lose contact to their constituents. As a byproduct, people too frail to hold a cup of coffee aren’t eligible to public office. No more gerontocracy.
