Claude Code's source was apparently leaked via a source map inclusion in NPM? Oh NPM, you're the gift that keeps on giving.
Here's a link to what appears to be the source: https://github.com/abubakarsiddik31/leaked-claude-code
And here is an insta-Python port of the same code: https://github.com/instructkr/claude-code
Honestly, kinda silly it wasn't open source already.
UPDATE: It's been pulled, as the repo said it would be upon request.
@mttaggart NPM, the anti-capitalist engine. It woke now.
@mttaggart I saw others posting links too but I don't know if I want that smoke tbh.
Like, grabbing a copy sounds fun... but I don't like riding in vans.
Uhhhh in case I have to say this, don't run code you don't trust on your system, ya ding dongs.
@buherator I run untrusted code on other people's computers. It's pretty fun!
@mttaggart thatās easy for you to say.
But my employer makes me use a laptop full of Microsoft 365 whatever, plus an ever-evolving zoo of shady utilities to keep the show on the road.
But itās their machine, and their data, so I figure itās fine š¤·
@mttaggart youāre right, sorry. I didnāt read the start of the thread š«£
@mttaggart
I only skimmed - but it does not include the heart of the product: the learnt database? Or have I overlooked something?
@vampirdaddy If you mean memories, they're generated during usage. If you mean the model itself, that's cloud-hosted.
@mttaggart @blogdiva Depending on how much of it was AI-generated, it might even be considered in the Public Domain. Havenāt courts ruled that AI-generated works arenāt copyrightable?
@Sempf I mean here's the thing. It was always just Typescript anyway? It's not like the source was that far away from scrutiny in the first place.
@mttaggart Yeah you have a valid point. Back in the day leaked Android source was a big deal for a bit until everyone realized it's just a zip file.
@mttaggart @ramsey courts in the USA did rule a few weeks ago that anything created by AI is NOT copyrightable. this only applies to the USA were only humans have copyrights and the right to protect their IP thru patents.
@blogdiva @ramsey Do you have a citation for that? As far as I know, the Supreme Court declined to hear the case:
And the challenge is against a decision of the Copyright Office, not existing law.
So if the Copyright Office is denying copyright based on the human authorship basis, then that's the current Copyright Office policy, but not law.
@mttaggart there are many forks already https://github.com/mehmoodosman/claude-code
