In the context of the Chatcontrol attempt to get Americans to scan our photos with AI so we can be reported to Europol, the EU has even bigger plans in this direction. And they are honestly (I am told) asking for experts to advise them on these plans. You can apply until September 1st to be part of the expert group:

@bert_hubert
When they asked for expert input on age verification, it was just for show ( https://bsky.app/profile/rahaeli.bsky.social/post/3ltxvljgx2k25 ), I very much doubt this time would be any different.
@dcoderlt people I trust tell me it could matter.
@bert_hubert Maybe I overlooked it, but I can't find how much time this would take. They say you should attend meetings systematically, but they don't say how frequent the meetings are. Do you have any guess how much time this would take?
@Dekkers you can find it in the terms of reference (some of the linked documents). It could be quite some time!
@bert_hubert Any idea what the time commitment for this is? I have a full-time job so scared to apply as someone else would probably do a better job.
But I worked both at Wire for 3 years (E2EE chat / video calling) and Feeld for 2 years (Dating app; so lots of more direct interaction with law enforcement w.r.t. sexual abuse cases, age verification, etc). so I feel like I have an interesting perspective from both sides of the spectrum.
@arianvp count on this taking serious time. Either it is serious and takes serious time or it is not serious and it takes little time, but that corner of the quadrant is not very interesting.
