I really like having rules-based regulation of digital services where there are procedures and a clear framework for services to operate, wherever there are from.
The whole TikTok thing in the US just highlights that when you don't have a clear rules-based approach, it really turns in a "Do we like them? Did they kiss the ring? How much did they give to my inauguration?" vibe.
Oh noes, the US Trade Representative is acting like the mafia again.
They want to take some unrelated companies hostage because of the failure of X and other tech companies to follow clear non-discriminative rules or pay their fines.
Say all you want about the imperfections of European Digital Rules but at least there's a framework of rules and not a “we don't like what they are doing, let's pick on some of their companies" vibe is clearly the US vibe here, not the EU's.
@fj would be so nice to see just one of the poor embattled US companies stepping up to set the record straight…
@fj So much for Spotify’s boss kissing Trump’ass…. #Spotify #USPolitics
@fj Looks like gunboat diplomacy is back on the menu. Commodore Mathrew Perry would be proud.
