Just had a stainless table knife shatter … while cutting a sandwich. It looks like maybe water got in through a small crack?
the smallest porosities in metal can cause failures. crack is a good alternative theory.

@SteveBellovin as it turns out, super soft bread, fillings, and the knife snapped in the middle of the sandwich. It was really surprising.
