I often see people posting Nikita Gill poems here, so let me share a little story.

Her poem ‘For Her’ is one of my favourites, and I told her that it can always bring me to tears, and I realise she didn’t have women like me in mind when she wrote it (as I’m trans), but I hope she didn’t mind me seeing myself in it and sharing the experience.

Her reply: “I wrote this for all women, so this poem is absolutely for you!” 🥹

"That better be a data center, and not a concentration camp" is a sentence I never thought I'd utter. Yet, here we are.

just in case you didn’t hate late-stage capitalism enough:

markets dipped severely today because…. some professional white-collar beggars wrote speculative fiction (“essays”) about what they think AI is doing to the economy??? blobcatbusiness

An abandoned Italian glasshouse, tucked away at the edges of a park in a thermal spa town.

This Art Nouveau-era structure has been abandoned since the 1990s. Its exact origins remain obscure.

The central section features decorative polychrome glass in green, yellow, and purple. Above the entrance, a purple glass canopy sits beneath rose-motif window.

When your password leaks:
→ Change your password
→ Problem solved

When your biometric data leaks:
→ You can't change your face
→ You can't change your fingerprints
→ The compromise is permanent
→ Your biometric data is in breach databases forever

This is why facial recognition for age verification is dangerous.

I'm really tired of trying to have nuanced opinions on LLMs and genAI. The basic reality is that the technology makes me sad because it stifles human ingenuity and creativity, and angry because of how easily it can be used for misinformation and the erosion of truth. Add the ethical and environmental issues on top of that and it's just depressing.

And yet, I feel compelled to at least be aware of LLM use in programming because if I were to lose my current job I'd almost certainly be overlooked as a candidate in today's tech field...for most companies hiring at least. I don't use it in my personal projects, and the degree to which I use it at work is pretty much entirely performative (my boss is a big proponent of Claude).

I hate myself a little bit for that too, because it's hypocritical to how I actually feel. I think a lot of tech folks are probably in a similar boat, really. There's definitely a lot of unease going around getting misinterpreted as hype.

Why AI writing is so generic, boring, and dangerous: Semantic ablation.

(We can measure semantic ablation through entropy decay. By running a text through successive AI "refinement" loops, the vocabulary diversity (type-token ratio) collapses.)
