Getting a lot of boosts from the NaNoWriMo fiasco, so er - hi. Don't have much for cybersecurity (yet), but, er....listen to audiodrama, maybe?

(P.S. anyone here from ? I lost all my lists in the evacuation/migration blobcat0_0)

@capnhoppy I admit, I still don't fully grasp the federated instances blobcatsweat Like, I'm in @infosec.exchange, but then I see something in my feed, boost it, and it says "whoa! what instance do you live in?"; it's like...how do you not know this? I'm logged in...

Although to your point, I take it then there's a list of instance members?

@circuit_cat @capnhoppy sometimes it's a matter of following the major players (those with a lot of followers) and if someone's toots (of topics you're interested in) gets boosted multiple times, that source is a good one to follow too.

Some people's profile bio might show that they are a security researcher at X or Y company. Not all of them are active, or they might stick to shitposting (opinions are theirs alone and don't reflect their employers).

you can click on a hashtag like , and there's a Follow hashtag button on the top right corner of the list.

@wyat mentioned that there are Mastodon groups https://fedi.tips/how-to-use-groups-on-the-fediverse/ @FediTips could help out with that

Eventually you'll go from reading the infosec news to going straight to the source (to breaking the news)

EDIT: To answer your question about the "You are not logged in to this server. Where is your account hosted?", this only becomes an inconvenience if I "open original page" which takes me to their specific Mastodon instance.

@circuit_cat @capnhoppy "whoa! what instance do you live in?" this happens when you navigate away from your instance, typically in a webview e.g. by clicking a quoted post. in that case you navigate to another instance that has 0 info about your session or your home instance so it'll try to redirect you.

@screaminggoat @circuit_cat @capnhoppy

Groups are not well known nor used a lot so far, but I guess they could become a good tool (depending on who joins them and future evolutions of the functionality in the ).

are more active in etc.

If you are interested in a topic, it's good to be in an instance where other people are, since the content is loaded (cause they follow accounts talking about that and the Fediverse is based on a duplication mechanism).

Last but not least: Our , @jerry, is a really wonderful one.
