proxmox install went well. New mini server is running pretty well. So this brings me to a question for my people here on the fediverse: What blogging software should I use?

I was generally a fan of wordpress, but given that one dude has lost his fucking mind recently, I don't want to install an open-source project ran by a manchild. What do you recommend?

I've been told ghost is the way to go, but I'm open to suggestions.

@DefectiveWings >just nginx and php
hm... I'm intrigued. I'm gonna give this a spin. Thanks for the suggestion

@da_667 I like Hugo as a static site generator, but guess it depends on your needs https://gohugo.io/

@da_667 Personally, static hosted site via hugo/pelican/etc. is my go-to. That said, I'm a sucker for creating build pipelines and livin' in the command line.

@da_667
Flat-file markdown content is nice, too.

If you have a site you're looking to convert, I wrote a WordPress exporter.

@da_667 I'm a fan of static site generators. Jekyll is an obvious option but Ruby is guaranteed Dependency Hell in the long run (I remember some fuckery even with Docker...). Hugo seems similar without the mess but I don't have experience with that one.

@da_667 bonus points if you find something that actually spits out static content

@morb @da_667 someone here wrote a thing that converts obsidian markup notes into html static content, and if you combine that with ghost you got basically notepad -> blogposts.

i was considering doing it but im not sure if i wanna blog again

@da_667 My recommendation if you have a second computer, set up a proxmox backup server. It works great. I have my old backup server in another state, and when I can get to it, I will upgrade the storage as a secondary backup. I connect to it via Tailsacle and will be sending encrypted backups to that machine

@da_667 A static site generator for sure. I use Hugo, but there are many.

@da_667 FYI, Proxmox works great for even smaller machines:

@da_667 Also looks like you need to patch. If you don't have a license, you change the repos by removing enterprise and adding no-subscription

@da_667 I like Jekyll, it can be used with GitHub pages if you want something basic with free hosting, but there are advantages to hosting yourself. I've been thinking about resuscitating my blog and switching to Obsidian Publish, it looks neat.
