I’ve been daily-driving a #LinuxMobile for over 2 years—both the #Librem5 and OnePlus 6, #PureOS and #PostmarketOS. I’ve loved the experience, especially the #Phosh UI and #Libadwaita apps.
But #LinuxPhones aren’t reliable enough for me now. With a newborn, I need to be reachable, so I’m switching back to Android.
Any recommendations? I’m torn between a #GooglePixel or #Fairphone with #GrapheneOS / #CalyxOS. Bonus points if I can dual boot Linux, or likely install it in some years!
@isyourbrainFOSS linux phone which is as reliable as mainstream devices is FLX1
I have used linux phones as long as I can remember. I have owned 2 x Librem 5, like 6 Pinephone Pros, 10 Pinephone Betas, Gemini PDA, Cosmo Communicator, multiply Volla phones, lot of Halium devices from second hand. This is the one.
Someone asked what made the #librem5 not reliable for me with #pureos. Calling and SMS generally worked OK last time I used PureOS, but that was not the case for mobile data. This made me miss non-SMS messages. Also, #phosh and packages are outdated on PureOS. Those points are being worked on, and I support those efforts. If mobile data was reliable, I still manage to enable the modem killswitch accidentally sometimes when I put the phone in pocket. #librem5 is still the coolest phone I know!
@isyourbrainFOSS If the modem hks moves more easily than the other switches it would look like a hardware problem (I've not seen the switch flip accidentally). Worst case one could remove the switch cap (it would still be switchable with e.g. a paper clip afterwards)
Agree on the other points (/cc @purism as I think it's valuable/constructive input about what hinders daily use.
@isyourbrainFOSS I have used the L5, SMS, SMIL for MMS worked well. Occasionally the modem would disconnect, but other than that, I didn't have much issue
