@lrhodes
Far less taxing. Replies and likes would be relatively nominal. Most of the work of the Threads users would be born by the Threads servers…at least unless they start migrating over.

@lrhodes see my defense plan against here: I think what I wrote is more detailed but along the lines of what he was getting at…

@lrhodes So would this be comparable to how if a kolektiva user boosted or faved something I posted, FBI has access to that information now?

@lrhodes @f4grx I don’t think it will increase the (natural) interactions that much. People are on these for-profit platforms for either self-promotion, celebrities, businesses or other family members.

If they’re waiting for some Kardashian’s new breakfast post they’re unlikely to come over to boost our posts discussing socialism & open source in Eastern Europe in the late 90’s.

Maybe the family we fled will find us again though 😓

@santiago @lrhodes That is a grave concern. Not even kidding.

@lrhodes @_L1vY_ this is my concern too. Any idea why Zuckerberg went for the Fediverse?

@m @lrhodes huh, why do posts carry any more than the poster’s handle? Surely adding anything extra about the poster adds unnecessary size to a post? Meaning more computation and storage, meaning slower network and more cost?

@lrhodes It isn't the zombies you need to worry about but the other humans.

@lrhodes there are a lot of places that have Facebook login or Facebook connections. They all share data with meta.

I had started playing this game and used my Twitter account as backup a few days later it showed up in Facebook. If there's any level of privacy this should not have happened.

@lrhodes Early screenshots showed what looked like QB or maybe replies of masto posts. Who knows what finally ships….?

@lrhodes BTW have really appreciated your deep dives into both BlueSky and Threads the last weeks and months. 👍

@lrhodes On this point, maybe, maybe not.

They might just be dabbling in something that will kill Twitter better, and willing to take the trade-off for that prize.
