@energisch_ I once read a book on crystal healing written by a geologist and it said "if your crystal actually radiates energy, for the love of god don't wear it!"

By the way, my favorite part of the mineral show is the geology table, where you can vote for Mineral of the Year and Fossil of the Year. The geologists sitting there love to info dump about the nominees, and hype up their favorites 😄

@TarkabarkaHolgy I would love to see stats from them on the most commonly misrepresented rocks.

@smitty I brought them two pieces of hematite the seller claimed were agate. I was like, ummm, I'm an amateur here, but I am pretty sure I can tell agate and hematite apart.

@TarkabarkaHolgy So why pass off hematite as agate? Just a more expensive material, or does the audience (in general) expect some special property from agate?

No idea if that’s an easy question to answer, it’s just the kind of thing I think would be interesting to plumb the data for.

@smitty @TarkabarkaHolgy as someone who is occassionally adjacent to this sort of woo: hematite is at least as woo as agate, so, maybe seller was clueless.

@fishidwardrobe @smitty I think a lot of sellers at the show are clueless. Either they are filling in for the table owner, or helping out, or selling for a business but they are not experts themselves.
