I use software, but I don't really care about freedom at all.

I don't have anything against proprietary software. I'm a game developer after all.

I just hate the feeling when someone is trying to sell me something. To manipulate me into spending more money, giving me the feeling that I'm being ripped off.

Name a fair price and I'll happily buy your app. But modern software isn't like that anymore. Modern apps are 10€ per month for an alarm clock. And that's just stupid.

@fell 100% agree - Adding that I too will buy your software or service if I choose to due to a need that I or my work may have. I even donate to open source projects that I believe show promise. Oh do not shove your product in my face because I will duck & dodge that shit and go on my merry way.

My Linked in profile has a note for vendor bro's that think cold call/emailing me is the way inside my work. LOL. Nope!

@fell I've come to realise the whole commercial model doesn't really map very well onto something you can duplicate at will. Nor something that can become "good enough" for your uses and never breaks.

@sjb Yeah, that is a problem. Software eventually breaks and needs to be fixed. And users also tend to expect new features over time.

@fell imho everything should be open source, and commercial software should just be open source plus a support contract. Software is easily reproduced these days, but the knowledge of the original developer is an asset I gladly pay for.

@danielsreichenbach I don't think that model would be sustainable. I love tinkering and I have never felt the need for a support contract.
